“Khwab-O-Khyal”
( Urdu Poetry in Gurmukhi Script )

            “Khwab-O-Khyal” (  Ik Nazariya ), a unique book of its own kind in the field of literature as well as in the field of art.  The Poetry, based on Imaginations and Experiences, is redefined through the expressions of strokes ( The illustrations ); thus was named accordingly :       “Khwab-O-Khyal” ( THE VISION ).

            It is a unique combination of fine feelings and deep thoughts expressed through every style of poetry and at the end of each poem, the same vision is, again, expressed through an illustration based on the abstract art on nature, symbols and physical balances; just to give visibility to some unsaid and speech to some unseen, by the Poet / Artist.

            Before recitation, the Poet has written the preface ( Two Words ) with his own hand         ( Calligraphy ) only to establish a direct relationship with the reader / viewer.

            The poems, having seven different styles, were Compiled and Edited by the Poet himself in six chapters and in each chapter; the poetry is again floated in a story style.

            The Style and Settings of the poems are set in such a way that no poem is beyond a page or the facing page.  A number to a page is given only when the poem is completed, otherwise not.  And before that, there is The illustration added on to it, as the Computer Designing has also been balanced by the Poet / Artist, himself.

            To put forth the Urdu Poetry in its true spirits, before those who cannot read or write visually but have well deep ears for the same, the Indo-Persian script has been Transliterated into Gurmukhi script by adding dotted symbols, pre and post, to all the characters with the real, complete and correct harmony of the original language by the Poet / Artist himself; on some pretext set by the earlier generations on the subject.  Though the vowel marks have since been vanished from the primary script, but this aspect has clearly been added in the secondary script at the appropriate places for the completeness and for better understanding, as pronounced phonetically.  This work is not at all less that of a thesis in the field of transliteration; as it is the first fully transliterated book from Indo-Persian to Gurmuki script.

            For the desired style in the presentation of the book, the Poet / Artist has himself developed a computerized font, after transliteration, a very first of its own kind in the world over, for the universal applications, later on, by the interested intellectuals.

            ‘Indo-Persian Gurmuki Transliteration Chart’ has also been prepared to a great extent by the Poet / Artist for reference and depicted therein in the beginning of the book.

            To make understand the thoughts further better, the difficult words have been Translated in Punjabi for the readers, by the Poet / Artist, and merged into a corner of the selected page itself, in a style of its own adopted by the Poet / Artist himself.

            Special Effects in this book have also given effect effectively, where found necessary, for a quicker and a deeper understanding of the thought and expression, put forth by the Poet / Artist.

            As whole of the book, containing 128 pages was in black and white, the Title of the book was accordingly designed in black and white, too, by the Poet / Artist.

            After completing Master Prints for the book, a very good quality of white paper was consumed for clear and better understanding of the poems and expressions, as well, as the Poet / Artist is a Publisher, too.  A very high class offset printing of the book, as well as Jacket in colour, and binding were got done.  The back of the title shows that the poet is also an artist and The illustrations may be seen in their true spirits, individually and independently, in which these were created, in The illustrations book named “Poetical Expressions 97”.

           “Khwab-O-Khyal”, the Urdu poetry in Indo-Persian Script, has since been further fully transliterated by the Poet / Artist into Devnagri script, as well, through another computerized fonts developed by the Poet / Artist himself, a very first of its own kind in the world over, for the universal application; alongwith a partial translation in Hindi language with the poetical expressions by the Poet / Artist, under the same caption “Khwab-O-Khyal” ( Ek Drishti ). The poetry may also be heard through audio cassettes or digital versatile disc, with a little background instrumental music, named “Khwab-O-Khyal” ( The Vision ), in which the Poet has recited his poetry himself.

            Right from the original thought of the poems as well as the expressions, including their development and creation, transliteration or translation, to the hard copy, that too, in the shape of a book, there is only and lonely, one man named SURESH BRIJ SUROOR.

            The Poet / Artist has dedicated all his works to his father SH. BRIJ BIHARI LAL ARTIST, known as ‘Master of Portraits’, whose oil painting, a photograph of which inserted in the book, has since been made by the elder brother of the Poet / Artist, DR. RAJ BRIJ, a Scientist in the U.S.A.

            The artist, SURESH BRIJ SUROOR, born in Jalandhar and a Post-graduate in Economics, had been serving the nation as a Civilian Gazetted  Officer under Ministry of Defence and is now settled, after retirement, at Chandigarh.
